Many women will have numerous different bags for different occasions. From clutch bags for a demure evening out to Kipling bags for day to day use, being able to match a bag to the occasion is extremely important, and the humble handbag can be as important a fashion accessory as anything else.

However, it is less rare for women to be completely aware of just what is in their handbag, and exactly how much of it are items that are not needed. When it comes to clutch bags it is easier to keep the items to a minimum as room will dictate that only the most important items make it out with you. However, in day to day life many women will be carrying around a huge number of items they really don’t need.

But does this matter - does being prepared for any eventuality count as a negative thing? In some ways, it can do. Overstuffing bags makes them uncomfortable to carry and even good quality material bags such as Kipling bags can start to show the pressure of being overfilled fairly quickly and the life of the bag can be dramatically reduced. On top of this, overfilling bags can actually simply be bad for us. Carrying heavy bags can put a great deal of pressure on the body and cause everything from back pain to bruises should longer straps dictate that the bag will be knocking against the body.

Finally, carrying a great deal of belongings that aren’t needed could be an issue should the bag be stolen. After all, should you be the subject of such a crime, you are going to want the minimum amount of items to be taken, and carrying a huge number of things you don’t need day in and day out will simply mean that whether through theft or simply through misplacing the bag, should you lose it, you will end up losing far more than you really should have.

So next time you head out, take time to think about what you really need.
